General Conference Information

For the first time, the workshops, presentations, and small group trainings taking place on the first day of the 2011 HEA Conference will not only educate the HEA community but will serve as one-day continuing education program for health providers. Health professionals will be eligible for 6 CEU/ME credits for participating in the training. To accommodate the generous folks at the Lake County Health Department who are sponsoring the health provider training, the daytime events on Friday will be held at the DoubleTree Hotel in Mundelein, Illinois. All other conference events will be held in Schaumburg (about 20 miles from Mundelein). Special room rates have been secured for conference attendees at the DoubleTree Hotel in Schaumburg. HEA is planning to arrange for transportation between the different venues.

Those who arrive on Thursday evening (October 20th) will be able to pick up their conference packets and meet some of the other conference goers at the DoubleTree Hotel in Schaumburg.

Friday's events at the Doubletree Hotel in Mundelein will focus on the characteristics and needs (social, psychological, and sexual) of people with Differences in Sexual Development (DSD's), including hypospadias, epispadias, and other conditions. On Friday evening, HEA Board Member Nancy Mayginnes and her family will be hosting a party at their home in Schaumburg.

Saturday and Sunday's (10/22-23) sessions at the DoubleTree Hotel in Schaumburg will include presentations on surgery in children and adults, workshops for parents, and a discussion on addiction. We will explore the long-term aspects of being born with hypospadias or epispadias with parents who've discovered that "it's not fixed and over with" and with adults who find themselves having a chronic condition that causes physical and/or emotional difficulties over many years.

We will also examine how HEA has helped its members, how we can improve our organization, and how you can help. The annual election of the HEA Board, the formation of committees, and an open microphone wrap up will conclude the Conference.
