This year, HEA is taking a slightly different approach to its annual conference. We wanted to provide our members with a relaxed, casual environment in which to learn, spend some time healing, and support one another. And there’s no better place for this than San Antonio—deep in the heart of Texas! Please join us for the 2010 HEA Conference from October 9 to 11!
HEA has booked the historic Menger Hotel (http://mengerhotel.com/) in beautiful downtown San Antonio to host our 2010 conference. The elegant Menger Hotel is only one block away from the historic Alamo (http://thealamo.org/) and the relaxing Riverwalk (http://www.sanantonioriverwalk.com/photo.html)! And what a deal: HEA has secured a block of rooms for the low rate of $100 per night plus tax! The Menger offers an in-house spa, fitness facility, heated outdoor pool, in-house restaurant, lounge, free coffee from 6:00 to 9:00 a.m., and free high-speed Internet. Lots of amenities to enjoy during your stay!
Although this is a conference, we will keep it relaxed and informal. Shorts and T-shirts are okay with us; we want everyone to be comfortable! One-hour workshops will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday and from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Monday. Each session will have approximately 20 minutes of material, and the remainder of the hour will be available for questions and answers with the experts. Speaking of the experts…we’ll have Tiger Devore, PhD (certified sex therapist); William Kennedy, MD (pediatric urologic surgeon); Billy Deegan, LMSW/CASAC (substance abuse counselor); Barb Neilson (social worker, Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto), Anne Tamar-Mattis (director, AIC Legal); and more covering a variety of topics.
We’ve planned a couple hours of “down time” in the afternoon to decompress, network, sightsee, or hit the spa!
Later in the afternoon on Saturday and Sunday, the conference continues! A down-home, genuine Texas barbecue will be held at the home of HEA board member Doug Jasper. After sharing a great meal with the HEA family, we will resume with some focused discussion groups and some additional “ask the expert” time by the campfire. What a relaxing way to gain new insights and offer support to others!
HEA’s mission for this conference is to make it less “clinical” and more “healing.” Our intent is to make it as informal, informative, supportive, and relaxed as possible. And what’s more relaxed than a big ol’ down-home Texas barbecue?
Please see the website Conference Page for additional details. If you're paying through PayPal, please complete the PayPal version of the registration form. If you'll be mailing in a check, please use the mail-in version of the registration form. If you'd rather print out a copy of the registration so you can fill it in by hand, go here.
See you in San Antonio for some Healing…Empowering…Advocating! Yee-Haw!

Between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, we will arrange for group transportation to take us from the Menger Hotel to Doug Jasper’s house about 25 miles away. Group transportation will also be available for our return to the Menger Hotel.
-
At Doug’s house, we will enjoy a genuine Texas hoedown and cookout!
-
After we’ve shared a savory meal, we’ll get together for some informal small groups around the campfire. This will allow us some additional access to our experts as well as time for our own personal healing and support of others.
-
Camping: Doug has a large enough piece of land to host all of this and has offered attendees the option to camp out (literally). If you would like information about camping out at Doug’s, please contact him ASAP at DougJasper@HEAinfo.org.
