Bags are packed, I'm ready to go...but...

Postby Captain Dan » Thu Oct 07, 2010 10:14 pm

...boy am I scared. I don't know how I'll ever sleep tonight, but by tomorrow afternoon I should be checking in at the hotel. It looks like a great weekend of weather.

I dropped my dog, Bailey, off ay my mom's house (she's babysitting for me), but I've lied about where I'm going. I was overwhelmed today with the urge to tell her the truth (mom, not Bailey), but given the fact that I've never discusseed my HS - I mean REALLY discussed it with anyone - I think I will make that decision after the Conference. That's probably a better plan, I think.

Well, I guess that's it for now and tommorow, I'll be in Texas!

Love,
Captain Dan

Hi Dan

Glad you are on your way; it will be great.

I know what you mean about wanting to tell someone, I managed it with a good friend from childhood days, but only a couple of years ago.

Since my parents did not discuss my HS with me it would have been very difficult for me to talk about it to them as an adult; I never have. Don't beat your self up about not being truthful to your mum, the decision to get up and go was far more important for now.

Catch you later.

Hi Capt Dan,
I don't know if you read this before you leave but all the guys I met at last years conf were great. They will respect your limits and allow you to say as much or as little as you want. There is no right way or wrong way. This is your process.

Your not the only one that dosent tell even parents where you are going or why. I just slip out of town and get back. I don't think a talk with my folks would help.
See ya in Texas!

At the risk of appearing to be creating a travel "blog," now that I'm sitting at the airport waiting for departure, I am starkly reminded of all of the life-long fears that have affected things like travel.

I'm nervous about drinking my much-needed coffee, because a trip to the men's room has to include the hope that maybe it'll be empty and all will be well. Or, the fear that there will be others, " normal" men and I'll get my bashful kidneys and stand at the urinal for so long that I might be suspected of being some kind of pervert, I'll hurry and end up with a damp lap for the morning.

I can't even believe I'm confessing all this, but it's been a long long life of fearing that I can't do what all the normal guys do.

Well, it's a stopover in Memphis. Never been there, either!

Love,
Captain Dan

Hey Dan, you will probably be here when you read this but I'm already here with a bunch of HEA folks and we can't wait to meet you. We've already checked out the washroom situations here for our meetings and they are going to work out well. The things you mention are things that so many of us run through our mind all the time. We get it Dan.

Cant wait to meet you.
